Definitely a good book for the shelf. It's hard to find what your looking for. I use it to cross reference other books. Not for the beginner. I really like how it has animal parts and not just plants. I would buy it as a gift but not for a beginner.

Very comprehensive book with the most useful index I've seen in a Chinese herbal book. You can reference the family name, common name, and botanical name of an herb. Although not every herb is covered, it does offer an extensive list to reference.

Learning curve needed.
