I’m a huge Ken Follett fan, but this is my least favorite of his books. The idea of someone waking up with amnesia is fascinating ( that by itself would have been a great mystery book) but after a certain point the storyline is obvious, and I didn’t like any of the characters enough to care what happened to them.

I didn't think I could ever listen to anything written by Ken Follett that I would not enjoy. After listening to World Without End, Winter of the World, Fall of Giants, and Pillars of the Earth (each one a classic that I can listen to many times) I was really disappointed in Code to Zero. Plot sounded really interesting but it just did not go anywhere (in my opinion). After one listening I will send it to the resale shop.

Not the best Ken Follett novel I have read but still retained many of the features I have come to expect from his stories. Fast moving, full of suspense. Like usual I couldn't put it down. But somehow not quite in the league of previous masterpieces.

I finished this book in two days as I could not. Put it down. I live about 25 miles south of cape Canaveral and am familiar with all the places men tioned in the book. That made it even more interesting to me. I was in a rooftop revolving resturant in Bangkok with my wife when they landed on the moon. The were showing it live on TV in the resturant. The cliental were an international group. We were all mesmerized BT the landing. Both my wife and I are now in our eighties and the moon landing remains as one of those special events in our lifetime.

That well-written, elegant novel reminded me very much of John le Carre famous books, however,Code to Zero is original in its own way telling fascinating story of the Cold War of the 60-ies.The book starts with the man waking up at tbe railway station, dessed in rugs and not remembering who he was.The plot unravels as that man who is the American rocket scientist Luke Lucas tries to restore his forgotten past and understand what events led to his total amnesia.The novel describes the space race between the United States and the Soviet Union after the Russians successfully launched the first satellite and the Americans went through a number of failed attempts to catch up with their enemy.Code to Zero is the story of a few friends, who met at the university, fought in the Second World War and kept in touch after the war.Friends who liked and loved each other and some of whom betrayed the others working for their country's enemy.That is the story of life-long devotion to each other and blind readiness to sacrifice everything which is sacred and dear to them for false political beliefs.

this must have been one of the first novels by Follet. He is my favorite author but this one was very poorly written in my opinion. Plot was quite unrealistic and characters superficial. Nothing like Pillars of the Earth or the Century Trilogy

As usual, Ken Follett has not let me down. Energized writing. I had no idea what was going to happen. There was excitement at the turn of every page. Really enjoyed the pieces about the rocket. Added a great deal. Strongly recommend this book. As a history buff, I have never been disappointed with anything written by Ken Follett.

I kept asking myself, did Ken Follett really write this, or did he conract his name out to amtoher author. His books have always consumed me. History, either American or World always bored me, but Ken Follett's novels told history in a way that is acurate and entertaining. Code to Zero tells a little about the space race, but almost as na after thought. The story is very predictable and the characters are alomst boring.Well, as I said, I am a huge Ken Follett fan, so I was expecting a lot more than what I got from Code to Zero.

Caporael, that looks into how the behaviours of the Salem accusers can be linked with the fungus Caliceps Purporea through Ergot poisoning.I loved this little snippet. I’d actually never heard of this theory before until I read this book and ended up going ahead and looking into it further. As much as it pains me that real witches might not exist in this world, I do think this has some great reasoning behind it and wouldn’t be surprised if this was a contributing factor in combination with the religious hysteria present at the time. Every story has an explanation.Salem’s vengeance tells the story of a group of young girls, bored with the tedious life that 17th century New England has to offer. They long to have fun dancing in the woods and be free of restriction. One night after sneaking out into the woods together, Sarah our main character and her two friends come across a group of people led by a woman who calls herself Hecate, the Devil’s Daughter. Hecate shows a particular interest in getting Sarah to join her and her group of ‘witches’ but only succeeds in getting one of the girls to partake in their ritual. After this Sarah and her one remaining friend become fearful of being both outed as witches and what has become of the friend who remained behind in the woods that night. During a brief dalliance with Hecate, Sarah is given a journal written during the Trials by her father. In denial about her father’s involvement with the trials but curiosity as to why he uprooted his life, changed his name and chose to settle elsewhere with a family gets the better of her. In her search for answers about her family and Hecate’s involvement, Sarah ultimately will feel the force of Salem’s vengeance.This novel immediately grabbed my attention as a history lover with a Salem Witch Trials fascination. For centuries people have theorized and debated over what could have caused a group of people to behave so rashly and hysterically. In combination with it being a different time in which most people’s faith and reasoning lay in their religion and the way of the Puritans being a strict one, it seemed that Salem was just a boiling pot for disaster. Still three hundred years later, we find ourselves unable to let go of this dark period as the uncertainty continues to give us ways to bend and twist the story to our will whether it be for academic purposes or a stellar work of fiction for a novel or tv series.Many try to take on a challenge with the Salem Witch Trials, but few really manage to make an impactful piece whilst still remaining as true to the era as possible in regards to detail. This novel does just that. From the language used throughout, to the descriptions of daily life and expectations set by the community leaders and parents, it does not disappoint. I was actually rather taken aback with the dialogue once I got into the story and worried it might make for a monotonous read but I was pleasantly and gladly proved wrong. The main characters were filled out enough early on that you understood their actions and why each behaved in the ways that they did. The children, fearful of disappointing strict parents, but restless and oppressed by Puritan life. The parents, fearful of God and their neighbours judgement for the slightest act out of line that could be mistaken for sin. Whilst Sarah’s parents portray the ridged and overly righteous parts of typical puritans of their time, Bishop and Priest provide some much welcome fight and wit to the storyline. They are the complete opposite of everything the Puritans stand for. Bishop is a rugged, hardened by life outlaw and Priest is a Native American who follows Bishop into war with the witches. Think of them as a 17th century Batman and Robin type due with a darker and much more mysterious backstory.Without ruining too much for anyone who hasn’t yet read this novel, I will say it is a great take on history. I love that it is centered around the fallout of real events but had a complete new spin that hadn’t been explored much before. Authors more often than not set their story in the lead up to and during the Trials but not many ever set their story afterwards. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and was pleased to realize that it is actually the first in a trilogy series. I would definitely recommend this to fans of historical fictions and anyone out there with an interest in the Salem Witch Trials.

I got so caught up in this book I read an entire night away. I was surprised when the sun came up. I've long been interested in the Salem witch trials, and have visited there several times. This book gave a plausible explanation of events, and spoke to The real forces at play. We should heed it's warning in today's political atmosphere. The masses are being led to violence and hatred out of fear planted by a few in power with their own agendas. God help us all.

SPOILER ALERT SORT OF. I started to not read this. First few chapters I thought it would be boring. I was wrong. Well done. A different look of what may have happened during the witch trials. Being the wife of an addict, the similarities of the black powder and some of the drugs from our time is sad to read. I can see people I know acting the same way as far as the twitching, scratching, and hunger for the powder. Over all well done.

Aaron Galvin steals you away and sends you on a whirlwind of adventure. He is clear, creative, and to the point. Probably my favorite book series of all time.

I'm so glad I read this fictional accounting of the aftermath and consequences of those involved in the Salem witch trials..Sarah learns about secrets kept from her that come back to haunt her family in ways she could never imagine. She is a strong young woman in an age where being outspoken could get you accused of being a witch, yet she holds her chin high, and saves those she loves by doing so. Can't wait to start book 2, and see what comes next!

It took me a moment to get used to the old English but once I did, I was hooked and ended up reading the entire book in one sitting. Anybody that follows my reviews knows five star ratings from me is few and far between but this book is a shining five star!

I was just not into this book. With it being about the Salem witch trails, I wanted to be into this book but it just left me feeling flat. I tried to be more excited about this book and I gave it all I had but this book did not keep my attention.

Wow! This was an amazing adventure! The fight details gruesome and exciting, I lost track of all time while reading! Must be witchcraft......

The total price (w/shipping & taxes) was $12.48 for this puzzle book. Ballpark, that's less than $0.07/each per puzzle. Not too bad for entertainment in these times (not being that "clever", I tend to get more for my money since it probably takes me longer to solve them). There are "Classic", "Daily" and "Challenger" puzzles and "Answers". I'm older and I like the fact that the puzzles are large print so I don't need reading glasses while I'm solving them. I would also highly recommend the Jumbo Jumble, "A Big Book for Big Fans" which has 500 puzzles. I just completed it recently. It was a gift from my son and think it ran him about $20.00 (not including shipping & taxes). That's about $0.04/per puzzle. Hope this "review" is helpful.

SInce I moved to Green Valley AZ I noticed their local newspaper did not have JUMBLE, like the Arizona Republic did when we lived in Phoenix. After a few years of 'JUMBLE withdrawl', I had to see if there were some collections out there and found this one on Amazon. Yes, the collection uses a 200 FONT, but being a senior citizen these days I appreciate it! For 8 cents a puzzle, it was worth it all the way for me. I am still a 'pencil and paper' guy for my puzzling, as my companion 'word search' is nearby with my new JUMBLE MANIA. Still my favorite kind of puzzle after all years, this collection is great.

The puzzles were easy to solve, but some of the jumbled words were not common English words. Not all , but I have a list of words that I had never heard of. Examples are rajah, jocund,lisle, jetsam,lichen and others. I have an extensive vocabulary, but I certainly don't know all as well as nobody else does. A dictionary takes a collaboration of minds. I usually enjoy Jumbles, Cryptograms etc. and Sudoku. Will buy more Jumbles, but not by these authors.

This is a very fun book for my Dad who loves to do Jumbles. He does them to keep his mind sharp. He used to be able to print them out but now he can't, so this was a fun gift for him. The puzzles aren't too challenging or too easy so this was a pure win. Would recommend.

I purchased this book for my 90 year old grandfather, who does the ones in the paper every day, he’s definitely gotten more into puzzles as he’s gotten older, for him it helps keep him sharp. And he enjoys the challenge! He actually told me not to get it! As the one a day in the paper is good enough, but since he had an emergency surgery a few months back, he’s been more depressed and having anxiety, and I noticed when he is working on a jumble or crypto, he gets more relaxed and is able to take his mind off other things. For someone who told me one a day was good enough!! He’s doing each jumble in order in the book! And in under a month he’s approximately half way thru it! (I suppose I will be buying others! As he truly enjoys it!)

I love to do these, but I was expecting 3 smaller size books when I ordered. Wanted something to carry in my purse. These are large print, and easy on the eyes, and ''''brain stimulating" and interresting, but not as I was expecting.

My mother in law who is suffering from Dementia that is effecting mostly her memory at this point has been working through the book. I have to help her with the answers to the puzzle narrative, but she can do the jumble words, and it is so good to keep her brain active. Not everyone in Dementia could handle this, but it has been good for her.

As I sit at work some days...................BORED in slow times. I do the jumble from the local paper. When I discovered that there could be a HUGE book of jumble I jumped on it. It was at my house in less than 4 days.............Quick delivery and came as described. Would recommend this seller to anyone

Brian Cummings FBA is Anniversary Professor at the University of York in the Department of English and Related Literature.
