Review
''[A] compassionate, discerning sociological analysis...Combining thoughtful inquiry with firsthand experience, Mr. Vance has inadvertently provided a civilized reference guide for an uncivilized election, and he's done so in a vocabulary intelligible to both Democrats and Republicans. Imagine that.'' (Jennifer Senior, New York Times)''[Hillbilly Elegy] is a beautiful memoir but it is equally a work of cultural criticism about white working-class America....[Vance] offers a compelling explanation for why it's so hard for someone who grew up the way he did to make it...a riveting book.'' (Wall Street Journal)''[Vance's] description of the culture he grew up in is essential reading for this moment in history.'' (David Brooks, New York Times)''[Hillbilly Elegy] couldn t have been better timed...a harrowing portrait of much that has gone wrong in America over the past two generations...an honest look at the dysfunction that afflicts too many working-class Americans.'' (National Review)''[A]n American classic, an extraordinary testimony to the brokenness of the white working class, but also its strengths. It's one of the best books I've ever read... [T]he most important book of 2016. You cannot understand what's happening now without first reading J.D. Vance.'' (Rod Dreher,The American Conservative)''J.D. Vance's memoir, ''Hillbilly Elegy'', offers a starkly honest look at what that shattering of faith feels like for a family who lived through it. You will not read a more important book about America this year.'' (The Economist)''[A] frank, unsentimental, harrowing memoir...a superb book...'' (New York Post)''The troubles of the working poor are well known to policymakers, but Vance offers an insider's view of the problem.'' (Christianity Today)''Vance movingly recounts the travails of his family.'' (Washington Post)''What explains the appeal of Donald Trump? Many pundits have tried to answer this question and fallen short. But J.D. Vance nails it...stunning...intimate...'' (Globe and Mail (Toronto))''[A] new memoir that should be read far and wide.'' (Institute of Family Studies)''[An] understated, engaging debut...An unusually timely and deeply affecting view of a social class whose health and economic problems are making headlines in this election year.'' (Kirkus Reviews (starred review))''Both heartbreaking and heartwarming, this memoir is akin to investigative journalism. ... A quick and engaging read, this book is well suited to anyone interested in a study of modern America, as Vance's assertions about Appalachia are far more reaching.'' (Library Journal)''Vance compellingly describes the terrible toll that alcoholism, drug abuse, and an unrelenting code of honor took on his family, neither excusing the behavior nor condemning it...The portrait that emerges is a complex one...Unerringly forthright, remarkably insightful, and refreshingly focused, Hillbilly Elegy is the cry of a community in crisis.'' (Booklist)''To understand the rage and disaffection of America's working-class whites, look to Greater Appalachia. In HILLBILLY ELEGY, J.D. Vance confronts us with the economic and spiritual travails of this forgotten corner of our country. Here we find women and men who dearly love their country, yet who feel powerless as their way of life is devastated. Never before have I read a memoir so powerful, and so necessary.'' --(Reihan Salam, executive editor, National Review)''A beautifully and powerfully written memoir about the author's journey from a troubled, addiction-torn Appalachian family to Yale Law School, Hillbilly Elegy is shocking, heartbreaking, gut-wrenching, and hysterically funny. It's also a profoundly important book, one that opens a window on a part of America usually hidden from view and offers genuine hope in the form of hard-hitting honesty. Hillbilly Elegy announces the arrival of a gifted and utterly original new writer and should be required reading for everyone who cares about what's really happening in America.'' --(Amy Chua, New York Times bestselling author of The Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother)''Elites tend to see our social crisis in terms of 'stagnation' or 'inequality.' J. D. Vance writes powerfully about the real people who are kept out of sight by academic abstractions.'' --(Peter Thiel, entrepreneur, investor, and author of Zero to One)

There is a lot to take in here, even for someone that's seen this life up close in many of its many guises. While ostensibly about the particular culture of the West Virginia Scots-Irish underclass, anyone that has seen white poverty in America's flyover states will recognize much of what is written about here. It is a life on the very edge of plausibility, without the sense of extra-family community that serves as a stabilizing agent in many first-generation immigrant communities or communities of color. Drugs, crime, jail time, abusive interactions without any knowledge of other forms of interaction, children growing up in a wild mix of stoned mother care, foster care, and care by temporary "boyfriends," and in general, an image of life on the edge of survival where even the heroes are distinctly flawed for lack of knowledge and experience of any other way of living. This is a story that many of the "upwardly mobile middle class" in the coastal areas, often so quick to judge the lifestyles and politics of "those people" in middle America, has no clue about. I speak from experience as someone that grew up in the heartland but has spent years in often elite circles on either coast. Two things struck me most about this book.First, the unflinching yet not judgmental portrayal of the circumstances and of the people involved. It is difficult to write on this subject without either glossing over the ugliness and making warm and fuzzy appeals to idealism and human nature, Hollywood style, or without on the other hand descending into attempts at political persuasion and calls to activism. This book manages to paint the picture, in deeply moving ways, without committing either sin, to my eye.Second, the author's growing realization, fully present by the end of the work, that while individuals do not have total control over the shapes of their lives, their choices do in fact matter—that even if one can't direct one's life like a film, one does always have the at least the input into life that comes from being free to make choices, every day, and in every situation. It is this latter point, combined with the general readability and writing skill in evidence here, that earns five stars from me. Despite appearances, I found this to be an inspiring book. I came away feeling empowered and edified, and almost wishing I'd become a Marine in my younger days as the author decided to do—something I've never thought or felt before.I hate to fall into self-analysis and virtue-signaling behavior in a public review, but in this case I feel compelled to say that the author really did leave with me a renewed motivation to make more of my life every day, to respect and consider the choices that confront me much more carefully, and to seize moments of opportunity with aplomb when they present themselves. Given that a Hillbilly like the author can find his way and make good choices despite the obstacles he's encountered, many readers will find themselves stripped bare and exposed—undeniably ungrateful and just a bit self-absorbed for not making more of the hand we've been dealt every day.I'm a big fan of edifying reads, and though given the subject matter one might imagine this book to be anything but, in fact this book left me significantly better than it found me in many ways. It also did much to renew my awareness of the differences that define us in this country, and of the many distinct kinds of suffering and heroism that exist.Well worth your time.
I spent most of the last 2 days reading this book and I can't stop thinking about it. I never heard of the author until I saw him on Morning Joe a few days ago but I looked him up and read several articles he wrote for various publications so I bought his book. He grew up in a family of what he describes as "hillbillies" from Kentucky but spent most of his life in Ohio. His family identified as being strongly Christian even though their behavior was frequently not particularly Christian. He was mostly raised by his grandparents along with his half-sister because his mother was an addict who went from husband to husband and he barely knew his father. He did poorly in school and was only redeemed by the fact that a cousin pushed him into joining the Marines. From there he went to Ohio State and then to Yale Law School. He writes very directly and honestly about the problems with white, working class America and why it is in decline. While part of the problem is societal, he believes there is an internal problem that government cannot do anything about. He suggests that tribalism, mistrust of outsiders and "elites," violence and irresponsibility among family members, parents without ethics and a sense of responsibility, terrible work ethics, and an us-against-them mentality is dooming the people who live that way to becoming poorer, more addicted, and more marginalized. Excellent book and very thought-provoking.
Appalachia: Rich Land, Poor PeopleI had high expectations for this book. I was born and raised in Appalachia and have a great love for the people and the culture. No doubt the author reflects his family experience, but i do feel that his account is not representative of the people of that place and time. As in most cultures, there is a broad spectrum of lifestyles and mores -- people with similar dispositions tend to find like members for their closest association. There are many wonderful kind and loving people in Appalachia who are living out the best examples that they can for family, friends, and strangers alike. I found these people to be in the majority. They are not portrayed in this account. For many summers I traveled extensively in my home county, not only the little settlements, but the houses back in the hollows and down in the narrow bottom lands. As a stranger i was almost always welcomed and offered help in getting my job done. I was often invited to take a simple meal. These people are poor with little material possessions. Yes there are some bad people as well, as a reading of the court docket in the local county papers will confirm. But do not let that darkness of a few outlaws color the picture of an entire people. To better understand the origins and long standing troubles of the Appalachian people i suggest you read, NIGHT COMES TO THE CUMBERLAND, by Henry Caudill of Pikeville, KY. From the cover notes: The quality of life in Appalachia declined during the Civil War and Appalachia remained "in a bad way" for the next century and longer. By the 1940s, 50s, and 60s, Appalachia had become an island of poverty in a national sea of plenty and prosperity. Caudill's book alerted the mainstream world to our problems and their causes. A major factor was the exploitation of natural resources (timber, coal, and later gas) by disinterested distant owners who left the owners of these rich lands poorly educated, poorly trained, land ruined, and hoodwinked over and over. Systematically looted by the robber entrepreneurs and their local toadies. With a few notable exceptions the exploitation cycle continues. Appalachia: Rich Land, Poor People, still.JSM

In Unexpected she shows us that while uncertainty may be in our future, fear doesn't have to be our forecast. I am getting ready to head to a surgeon tomorrow to find out if I need surgery. This injury has been so depressing, scary and unexpected. Will my career be over because of it? I am not that old. "Unexpected" couldn't have come at a better time!! God is speaking though every chapter.
Unexpected has helped through some Unexpected events that have happened. I find it easy to let fear get the best of me and I have a hard time letting go and moving forward. As long as I can allow myself to accept the Unexpected I will be okay, This book has opened up a whole new chapter in my life that I hope to continue to follow in this season in my life and for more to come. Thank you Christine Caine for writing this book and touching my life and I am sure many others that have read it and many more to come!!
I've not finished reading the book, but words cannot describe how the blessings I'm receiving through it! Most recently, I read the story of how Peter denying Jesus three times and how crushed his spirit must have been. But, God did not leave Peter in the wayside, but later used him to be the rock upon which the Christian church was founded. To quote Christine, "When Peter realized what he had done, he was bitterly disappointed in himself. But despite his tragic failure, Peter went on to fulfill his destiny..." This story inspires me to remember that God can use me and will use me in the future, despite my failures to be faithful. Thank you, Christine, for lifting my faith to greater levels of trust in God's perfect plan for my life.
I have read many of Christine Caine’s books, and this one took me back at first because it is different than her others. She highlights the stories of many people who have walked through various unexpected times in their lives, not just her own. In this way, each page is filled with the truth of how God is working uniquely in each of our lives, and it is so encouraging and life-giving. She is relatable, and her constant trust in God’s goodness inspires me to live wholeheartedly for him. Christine is amazing - she is gifted and favored by God - but she doesn’t gloat on this. Instead, she turns it on the reader, challenging us to step into our destiny. We all have powerful lives planned for us, we just have to be willing to walk through the unexpected with trust, grace, and belief in the faithfulness of God.
Another chain of bondage broken! The Holy Spirit moves so powerfully through Christine Caine in Unexpected as she addresses those seasons, moments, and events that can be otherwise debilitating. When we yield to the Spirit and fully trust the LORD, we are comforted in all circumstances.
This book is incredible. Filled with insight, wisdom and humor. So relevant to the times we live in.
Awesome book! This was exactly what I needed in my life right now. I have been so encouraged reading it!!! You definitely want to check this book out because we ALL have unexpected moments that we should look at with a different perspective.
Great insight in how to deal with the many unexpected events/situations we experience in life. Instead of stressing about the unexpected you’ll learn how to embrace & grow when the unexpected happens. The book is well written & has real life examples of unexpected situations & how to triumphed over them. Ms Caine is transparent about her experiences. I recommend this book.

I encountered the paperback version in my local bookstore during my lunch hour. My son was not even 1 years old yet, but he cried terribly every morning when I left for work and waited desperately for me when the sun sets and I'm not home yet. It was a time when I was working until 10p.m. to get a project done by a specific due date and he'd refuse to go to bed until Mommy got home. When I read the book, it appealed so much considering what was going on at the time, that even though I thought my baby was a little too young, I bought it anyway. The paperback is beautiful and large, each individual page truly like artwork that you could frame on the wall! It was a hit with my son from the first day. However, my husband only read it to him when Mommy is not around once. He started crying at "And she came!" because HIS Mommy hadn't come. Before this happened, we weren't sure whether he understood the story! My son loved the book so much, he often took it and insisted on turning the pages himself. By the time my baby boy turned one, the paperback was looking quite worn. He'd torn the pages a bit, here and there, and we were sad to see the beautiful artwork marred by tape, but that's what books are for, right? To be loved and used. When he finally pulled the cover off the book, we decided it was time to buy a new copy. When I saw that amazon.com had a boardbook version, I immediately ordered that one, as that would last longer than the paperback with my physically over-affectionate 1.5 year old. The boardbook serves its purpose for my toddler to flip through, but I think I will be buying another paperback version when he gets a little older, because the boardbook is short by 10 pages, dropping many pieces of beautiful illustrations, although the words and the story is fully intact. It is also smaller in size, so some of the detail is lost to the eye.Now that my son is 2 years old, he has taken to flapping his arms and bouncing up and down with the baby owls when Owl Mother has arrived. I have no doubts that this book will engage my baby boy for a few years more.
This book is a classic. I read it to my grandchildren and they loved it. I also volunteer at a preschool once a week, and read to the children. They also love it. The story really speaks to the fear children sometimes have when they first start preschool. It shows a loving mother owl returning, with food, for her nervous baby owls. It also shows the interaction between the baby owls. The illustrations are adorable. I highly recommend it.
A special book in a number of ways. My 2 1/2 yr old granddaughter loves it and it held a special attraction for her during a period when she wasdealling with a new sibling. I found that interesting because it isn’t about having a new sibling, but it does deal with the fears of mama disappearing, which is clearly related. The story involves three baby owls who wake to find mama gone and they try to reassure themselves that she is going to return soon. The youngest is not convincedf and keeps repeating: “I want my mama.†It is the essential cry of the young child. It deals well with a common fear of young children, it has wonderful repetition, rich language and yet is not heavy on text. It also has wonderful illustrations that really introduce the concept of perspective.
I bought this beautifully illustrated board book for my owl-loving son when he was 22-months old. I expected him to love it and was surprised and saddened when it terrified him: "No, no!" was his reaction to the 3 little owls waking in their tree home to find their mommy gone. He could not last three more pages until the mommy returned and all was well. After trying to read it to him 3-4 times and getting the same reeaction each time, I put the book on a shelf and left it.6 weeks later my (then nearly 24-month old son) pulled the book off the shelf and asked me to read it to him. I read the first page, and then he immediately flipped to the end when the mommy comes home, still unable to wait wade through the pages in between. This went on for 4-5 more readings until one day he let me read the whole book to him. My son just turned two and now he LOVES it and had us read to him repeatedly every day. "Mommy came back!" he exclaims each time. I'm so glad we stuck with this book; it's a sweet story, beautifully illustrated, and helps my son with separations. When I need to leave him he now says "owl mommy came back!" Yes, I tell him, Mommys always come back. He has applied this book to his own life and it gives him comfort.Wonderful book! If your child is initially scared by it don't be disheartened, stick with it and keep it in a place where your child can bring it to you when they are ready to absorb it.
This is a cute book and teaches a nice lesson that mom's always come back. It's been helpful with getting the kids to understand that mom sometimes needs to go to work, or go the store alone, etc. Our kids think the littlest owl is funny and they repeat his line on cue: "I want my mommy!"
Preschool teacher here, I love this book so much that I have purchased one for each grandchild and with more grandchildren on the way I will be back to purchase more!! The pictures of these three baby owls are adorable, I love the story line, there is a part where the owl mother in GONE, the three baby owls take care of each other, this leads to a discussion on where do you think she went and will she come back?.....lets finish the story and find out.....she comes back!!
The pop-up scenes in this book are darling, but for me the real pull of this particular volume is that it's a chance to get the UK English version of the book in the US. My kids do enjoy the pop-up scenes as well, but be aware when buying that only four of the twelve two-page spreads in this book feature pop-ups. The book is one of my favorite children's stories, and is wonderful for kids who deal with separation anxiety.
OK, maybe that headline is a bit ambitious - but my child and I both LOVE. THIS. BOOK. The message is simple and clear, even for little ones: Mommies have to go away sometimes. It's OK to be said and miss them - but they always come back. The story and artwork are beautiful - so much so that three little owl toys in our playroom are now named Sarah, Percy & Bill.

I love good, clean stories but can not abide poor spelling or use of words. Like there for their, his for her. Twisting things, forgetting sequence, misplacing names. Makes for very frustrating reading. I often don't finish a book due to these very things. If you back track and re-read these stories, you can keep up and enjoy them. But I hate rereading.
I loved this book from beginning to end. I couldn't put it down until I finished it. I loved all the stories
There are Heros and heroines; adventure, suspense, and, of course, villains. These are clean and charming romances with 'happily ever the' endings.
The stories were all sweet and endearing. I liked that they were clean and pure. I also liked that characters were honest and forthright... not making ridiculous assumptions and misunderstandings that dragged on and on for chapter after chapter.
FAST READ ! But a little religious for me
Just finished this set. Love all of the stories, some sad some hilarious!
This was a wonderful series. I really enjoyed it.
no excitement boring same story different names didn`t finish it !!

Review
“The straightforward and funny advice in Janda’s book is what most people learn only after toiling in the corporate trenches for years. (Um, how dare he share ALL our secrets?!) I hope he’s charging at least a year’s worth of school tuition for this book. Seriously, take copious notes on the practical suggestions offered here to help steer your own career, whether it’s your first job or your 15th freelance gig. The drama-free work approach and leadership style outlined in Burn Your Portfolio is what makes working with him and all the folks at his company, Riser, FUN and worthy of the cupcakes we send to celebrate each of our successes together.” —Michelle Sullivan VP Digital, Kids & Family Publishing and Media, National Geographic (aka 800 pound Gorilla Client) “This book should be a mandatory course at art schools…no, at all schools! The message transcends occupation; it’s about maneuvering through the unspoken rules and dynamics of various personalities in your workplace. Mike is a perfect person to deliver this message; his long-term relationships and success of his business are the true testimony of his skills on managing up, down, and sideways. Your talent alone will take you nowhere if your character doesn’t support it. If you want longevity in your field, this book is a must-read.” —Jane Bhang Consulting Art Director, Sony Pictures Entertainment “I wish I could take every designer I’ve ever worked with and smack them over the head with this book…which would hurt, because it’s big! After that, I’d tell them to read it cover to cover, because Michael Janda will show them how to stop making the business mistakes nearly everyone in design is making.” —Dave Crenshaw Author of The Myth of Multitasking and The Focused Business “Do you want to supercharge your design career? Drop that Wacom pen and immediately pick up Burn Your Portfolio, and read it cover to cover. Michael Janda clearly outlines practical, actionable advice that will make your design business better, your clients happier, and your teams more productive. Even if you’re a freelancer just striking out on your own—no, especially if you are—the insights, truisms, and humor in this book will prove to be valuable tools in your design arsenal.” —Marc Siry SVP, Media Products, NBC Universal “I’ve worked with Michael and Riser for many years, and the thing that differentiates Michael and his team from other agencies is their ability to speak my language versus design speak! Michael and his company Riser are not only super-creative, they are total professionals. Communication is a big reason why Michael and his team are so successful at what they do. They are good at not only listening to a client who is not a designer and is trying to convey the details of a project, but also on working with the client to get the job done well, on time, and also on budget. I can’t think of a better person to give advice to designers who need to work with clients in the real world.” —Melissa Van Meter VP, Marketing & Advertising, TV Guide Network

Comically written, fun to read w/ good advice
Author Michael Janda is a graphic designer and owner of his own graphic design firm. According to Janda, design schools spend roughly 90 percent of their time having students develop a portfolio. He feels that there are many additional skills needed for success, including teamwork, communication, social aptitude, production speed and business skills. This book contains some really great advice on running a business. Chapters are short, easy-to-read, and humorous. They also contain great lessons and specific examples of his learning experiences. Chapter 100, for example, is titled “Floods Happen.†It’s the story of a flood in his basement office that destroyed a bunch of work because he didn’t have a backup strategy.Although written with a light touch, Janda does a good job of conveying the reality of owning a business. He shares how much he worries, the importance of understanding your financial statements, and how to deal with clients. He also shares many of the forms and checklists that have been the basis for his success.
I did a full review of this book on my website pdn9.com, and then realized I should share the review with others considering buying it on Amazon.Score: 7.3Amount of Content 7/10Value of Content (Usefulness) 7/10Originality of Content 8/10Relevance of Content (To a Product Designer) 7/10Entertainment Level 7/10Length of Read 8/10Inspiration 7/10I just finished reading Michael Janda's book, Burn Your Portfolio, Stuff They Don't Teach You In Design School, But Should. This book's score of a 7.3 is pretty good, especially considering it was written by a graphic designer for graphic designers and I'm a product designer. This book doesn't grind down into the technical processes in creating digital art, rather Janda focuses on widely-applicable skills and habits that nearly all successful entrepreneurs have. A visual indication that I enjoyed this book is all of the shreds of post-it notes marking pages I found particularly helpful. For those unfamiliar with Michael Janda, he's the owner and operator of renowned design agency Riser. As an independent designer and director of Riser, Michael Janda has worked with clients that freelancers and agencies dream about having. Riser has proven profitable and grown year after year, and Janda's ability to understand design as a service as well as business is apparent. I'm very glad he took the time to share what he's come to learn and publish it into a great book for everyone to learn from. Now, let's look at why it scored the way it did.Amount of ContentAlthough this book is only 361 pages long, there are a lot of words on those pages, haha. Not sure how else to say it. This book is just incredibly dense. Little room is wasted and the book is deceivingly heavy. I'll go ahead and pretend that the weight is indicative of the amount of information contained within. There's plenty of information in this book in my opinion.Value of ContentI gave this category a 7 of 10. I found the content quite valuable. One way I'd find to improve this category is to include more actionable steps rather than high-level ideas and concepts. Another reason I only gave it a 7 in this category is because the book is really intended for graphic designers. Being a product designer, some of the content wasn't that valuable to me as it simply didn't relate.Originality of ContentThis book is full of original content. That's why it scored an 8 in this category. Michael's take on design is that it's a services. People skills matter in services and so he focuses on how to improve as a business owner and a human who's paid to provide a service. He pulls lots of experience from his own life which makes it entertaining and original. He also shares what he's seen work and not work. Finally, there's lots of concepts from other successful business owners and authors in this book, but Janda discusses exactly how it applies to designer.Relevance of ContentThis is a bit surprising. I'd think the relevance would be a 5 or 6, but I felt it deserved a 7. Again, since it's geared toward graphic designers, I was impressed. As a product designer I got lots of great insights on how to improve as a designer, a communicator and consultant. The merit of thoroughness and hard work is talked about in an uplifting way in this book.EntertainmentAnother 7 for this category. It's not as entertaining as an adventure or thriller book, but then again, it's about business as a designer. For the subject matter, it's well-written. There are some funny stories, but perhaps most useful are the actual experiences Michael shares which are inspiring as he's had a very successful career.Length of ReadI assigned an 8 for this category as it took me a while to read this book. It's got many short chapters (over 100), so it's pretty easy to pick the book up, knock off a few chapters and then put it down. Also, at 361 copy-heavy pages, there is a generous amount of content between the two covers of this book.InspirationSeven again! This book is perhaps a bit more aspirational than inspirational. Being pretty young in my career, Janda's accomplishments are more like milestones I'd like to hit than things I'm about to go do. The evidence he provides that a thorough, hard-work approach will take you far is inspiring and all the practices he mentions provides some sort of blueprint no matter where you're at in your career as a designer... unless you're Mr. Janda. (If that's the case, thank you so much for reading!!)Final ThoughtsBurn Your Portfolio is a fantastic book. It's full of original information that provides a look into the design business through the eyes of an agency owner. this is valuable to anyone who ever wishes to be more than just a production artist. I think there are loads of valuable resources for Product designers and (other) designers alike. It's reminded me how my clients deserve to be treated and provided some stepping stones to advance my own career. The VerdictBuy it.
For someone who just worked tirelessly to put together a portfolio, this is probably the last book I would ever think to pick up. However, this is exactly why it caught my attention. As a recent SCAD graduate, this book was the perfect insight to make it in this world as a designer. I believe that many artist/designers have high hopes of one day being the most sought after, living in a big city, and doing pretty well for themselves. Michael shares with us that while achieving those dreams are not impossible they may require a lot more work than many think or are willing to put in. This book resonates with me because of the witty insights from Michael, the beautiful illustrations, and the way it deeply relates to those of us who chose a creative career path.
Every page in this book reminds me of my self and the decisions I made, right or wrong, over the past 16 years of my career as a Graphic Designer & business owner. Michael Janda's clever and genuine writing of his own experiences throughout his successful career in the creative industry, gives voice to many who struggled just like him. This book is a must read! Not only for Graphic Designers with an entrepreneurial drive but also design students, teachers, creative professionals, and even clients who hire creative professionals.Cagan YukselFounding Owner / Creative DirectorGRAFX CO.
This book is by far the most enjoyable design related book I have read. The author Michael Janda put himself into this book and you truly feel as though you're sitting across the desk from him having a conversation. He writes with a level of open authenticity so that you feel as if you know him personally. The book is full of practical and actionable advice! I truly believe that anyone working remotely in the creative field, regardless of tenure, should read this book.
