I'll often buy a premium kindle edition of a book that I could otherwise get for a much cheaper price, to get a well-designed reading experience, paragraphs that look like paragraphs, and perhaps some useful scholarship in introductions and annotations. Generally I'm trying to avoid the kind of type layout where there is a blank line between non-indented paragraphs, which is very common in free editions. Hack-job introductions are also a turn-off.I bought the Harcourt/Harvest kindle edtion of "Orlando", edited by Mark Hussey, about three years ago, and I'm reading it now. It has way too many typos. There are dozens of times when "tl" becomes "d", so "title" becomes "tide", etc. Disappointing in what should be a quality edition. OCR with shoddy QC, perhaps.Others have complained that the footnotes are not tied to the text. That's true, but it doesn't bother me much, since I just finished reading the Penguin Deluxe "Les Miserables", which did the same thing in a physical (non-kindle) book. Avoiding the intrusiveness of a bunch of superscripted endnotes: to me, that's a reasonable design choice.Overall, this kindle edition of "Orlando" isn't really worth paying extra for, so I would recommend rummaging around among the cheaper editions before buying this one.

The most brilliant portrayal of a transsexual experience in modern history. Even when Magnus Hirshfield was publishing his treatise on the transsexual phenomenah, Woolf relates an account of the intracies of gender identity undiscovered by social scientists and biologists. Published in 1928, Orlando has been billed as one of Woolf's best imaginative works however, such criticism was never seen in the light of reality but a surreal depiction of the writer's portrayal of a young man who wakes up one day as a woman, as if in the ordinary course of his life. As Woolf suggests of her character's reaction to the change "Orlando herself showed no surprise at it.(Woolf, 139. Modern transsexuals have explained only recently in their writings, their internal thinking stays the same, only the external body appears different to others. ALthough Woolf's work set the precedent for post modernist literature, infusing elements of fiction into biography, she weaves the internal stuggle of her former lover, Vita Sachville-West's life, together with her own perceptions of gender and sexuality, with an historical account of a young transsexual aristocrat's adventures over the span of centuries. Unlike a biography of her time, the action is secondary to the internal story. This is more of an account of how her lover (and as suggested by this author--Woolf herself), struggles with her own gender identity; a thinking so similar to transsexualism and conflict with a Eurocentric binary gender system. Here, the biographer (narrator) describes: the reaction to Orlando's change of sex, as it may appear in a scientific journal today;"[b]ut in every other respect, Orlando remained preceisely as he had been. The change of sex, though it altered their future, did nothing whatever to alter their identity. (Woolf, 138). Woolf captures the failure of the general public to grasp the concept of gender reassignment when she has the narrator express dismay in the lack of Orlando's reaction where "Orlando was a man till the age of thirty (Similar to our understanding of modern transsexuals who start their transition at middle age) when he became a woman and has remained ever since." (Woolf, 139)'. Woolfe's use of metaphor and foreshadowing is uncanny. The pyrotechnic displays prior to the deep sleep of Orlando depicts change. She puts Orlando on a ship called the 'Enamoured Lady,' and she is suddenly the object of the Captain's and other males' attention and realizes that the sexual fantacies of men creates a dillemma for her as a woman, where she must sheild her own desires as a woman. Woolfe precisely proclaims that '(Orlando) remembered how, as a young man, she had insisted that women must be obedient, chaste, scented, and exquisitely apparelled... (and) "Now I shall have to pay in my own person for those desires ... for women are not (judging by my own short experience of the sex) obedient, chaste, scented, and exquisitely apparelled by nature." Woolfe does not stop at her proclivity to undress Orlando's gender identity but lays bare the confusion of sexual preference. Although a woman herself, Orlando proclaims that "it was still a woman she loved; and if the consciousness of being of the same sex had any effect at all, it was to quicken and deepen those feeling which she had had as a man." (Woolf, 161). Where she gives in to sensual thoughts of a man, the Captain on whose arm she trembles and remembers that she had once been a Duke and Ambassador, "that she, who had been lapped like a lily in folds of paduasoy, had hacked heads off, and lain with loose women amoung treasure sacks in holds of pirate ships..." Woolfe reveals a metaphoric character, the Archduchess Harriet Griselda of Finster-Aarhorn and Scan-op-Boom in the Roumanian territory, seen in chapter three as a woman, and in a later chapter is shown to be a man, the Archduke, who suddently professes his love for her. Woolfe's ability to produce a character like the Arduke Harry who today would fall somewhere on the transgendered scale, is amazing, for a woman in her time. Yet through all its carefully crafted language and delightful parody, the gender message she professes is much the same today as it may have been then, that "Clothes ... change our view of the world and the world's view of us...." Orlando challenges the Eurocentric binary gender construct of the world she lived in. Here, the writer's own indictment of the unrealistic bounds placed on women is evident and transposed by her narrator and Orlando's own expository reflections, "In every human bing a vacillation from one sex to the other takes place, and often it is only that clothes that keep the male or female likeness, while underneath the sex is the very opposite of what it is above." (Woolfe, 189). Here, Woolfe appears to challenge more than the unfairness and imperfections of gender traditions on women. She uses comparaisons of the formalities of being a nieteenth century man and woman to make her point. Additionally, the most introspective journey in Orlando, is of a person who is not questioning her own gender identity, but defining it. Woolfe appears to depict, not confusion, but knowledge by the transsexual main character of her own identity, and chosing to adapt to it by changing the way the world looks at her, by changing sex. It is the world that suffers the confusion. Woolfe makes generalities about other persons hiding their sex in the clothing of the other gender, suggesting there are numerous persons in her era that suffer from some sort of gender dysphoria. After reading Orlando, and comparing it with the writings of transsexual, transgendered and social scientists,Woolfe describes so clearly the struggle a transgendered person experiences, that critics should look more closely at this writing. Woolfe's narrator states: "Of complications and confusions which thus result every one has had experience;" and as though afraid to delve deeper, she leaves this general question to "note only the odd effect it had in the particualr case of Orlando herself." As Woolfe so eloquently portrays the posttranssexual eptiome, "having now worn skirts for a considerable time, a certain change was visible in Orlando, which is to be found even in her face..." and where the narrator wonders, had both the man and woman of Orlando's time.worn the same clothes (in other words, different sexes but same gender) it is possible their outlook may have been the same too." (Woolfe, 188). Yet the most profound statement made in the text reveals Woolfe's secret exposition: "The difference between the sexes is, happily, one of great profundity. Clothes are but a symbol of soemthing hid deep beneath. It was a change in Orlando herself that dicated her choise of a woman's dress and of a woman's sex. And perhaps in this she was only exprssing rather than mor openly than usual---openness indeed was the soul of her nature---(Woolf, 189). Thus, Woolfe explains that Orlando chose to change his sex because he was in fact a woman, a woman's soul in a man's body. This book is highly recommended to all who are ever wonder what it is like for a transsexual to alter his sex, and begin living as the gender opposite of his or her sex. And for those who never wondered, it is a great read, full of insightful commentary on the possibility of a gender continuum and expanding the boundaries of a binary gender system of a phallocentric society.

I admit I went into this novel with some pre conceived thoughts about Orlando. The synopsis on various sites really doesn't do the book justice. I'd read To The Lighthouse prior to this novel and I admit I was somewhat prejudiced.To say I was surprised by Orlando is an understatment. The concept, the style and prose was for this reader an eye opener. Prose that I could fall into and savour.I'm rating it highly because of it's uniqueness and it is a book that you can not be ambivalent about. To me that is what reading is all about.

If you have an interest in witnessing the perfect use of the English language in narrative, anything written by Woolf will do and Orlando is not exception although it is an atypical Woolf work. It is an interesting mix of humor and serious comments on maleness and femaleness, English class history, and insider jokes some of which require a knowledge of Woolf's personal relationships. It helped me to have finished a recent biography of Virginia Woolf to better understand her work generally and especially this one.

The product description does not state the notes in this edition are END NOTES, not foot notes. The text does not indicate at all which terms/etc. are annotated. The notes are listed by page number at the end of the novel. Basically, you need to flip to the back of the book to see if there are any notes for each page. I found the notes themselves helpful but inconvenient to use.The playwright Sarah Ruhl (two-time Pulitzer finalist, 2006 recipient of the MacArthur Fellowship) recently released a stage adaptation of this novel. In her introductory notes, she recommends the Penguin Classics version annotated by Sandra M. Gilbert.

Orlando is a significant story to say the least. It's perhaps one of the most important reflections on gender identity that we have available to us. Just don't buy this version! No page numbers, weird line spacing, random hyphens placed throughout the text; all of these print issues make it really hard to lose yourself in the writing. Spring for a better edition because this isn't worth the $5. Feels like it was pulled from another edition and no further editing was done to the format.

The book goes into great detail and was usually quite helpful. My only complaint is that it is a CS6 book with examples in ActionScript 2.0. CS6 has ActionScript 3.0. Also, some of the screenshots must be of CS5 because they don't always match my screen.

the book is a good reference if you are new to flash, it shows you how to work with flash, I gave it three stars because there isn't much actionscript included and I think that working with flash without actionscript is using about 40% of what flash has to offer

Very detailed manual but really meant for the professional. Not what I was looking for. But a terrific book for someone who really needs a detailed desk reference quality book for Flash CS6.

This is a very good source of information for Flash CS6, although the chapters are laid out a little bit oddle and seem to jump from topic to topic. I found this to be a more thorough discussion of the topics that the traditional classroom in a book series

Very enlightening. A lot of the information presented in Flash CS6 - The Missing Manual really needed to be included in their Classroom in a Book series. It's good to see they were clever enough to make sure the information gaps were filled with the Missing Manual series.

This is a great book for someone just starting to learn Flash. I got it for a required college course. I had some previous experience with Flash before taking the course with this book so there were times when the book didn't have enough in it for me, especially when it came to doing advanced ActionScript programming. But it's a perfect book if you want to get the basic down Flash and ActionScript.

This is a great resource for anyone interested in web design who is using the latest Adobe software, Dreamweaver CS6.

But if too many similar coincidences happen, you begin to think: this is not possible, this is not “true randomness”, because the unbalanced mathematical distribution of occurrences, point out that there other (invisible) forces influencing the outcome. It is not random.Saw Ed Citronnelli interviewing John Ramirez on YouTube and saw his deliverance videos where the demons exposes their tactics. I’ve read and bought other books on spiritual warfare, but they seems to teach doctrine more than practical application. It leaves you having to decode and formulate a prayer strategy on your own, based on the information taught. Some other books are more like a biography, that describe the experience of the minister. I had to put them all together to come up with my own prayer.Where this book is different, is that This book has prayers listed, so you just pray them. This is where it really shines. It briefly explains what is going on, then explains what happens when you pray the prayers, and then lists down those prayers. Straight to the point, and cuts like a sharp knife. Just the way I like it. A-B-C.Some of them confirms some of my personal experiences. The weapon in the hand is proven. Before I read this book, I had an experience where I pictured in my hand a sword and killed a demon tormenting a family member in his dream for YEARS (at least 7 years) (shouting and moaning in sleep). I said, enough is enough and I don’t want to hear my family afflicted with nightmares EVER again. I want you to DIE right now and never come back again. It was silenced and it never came back. I thought I was crazy, but hey, as long as it works.

Ephesians 6:12 says, "we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against PRINC-ipalities , against powers, and against the rulers of darkness of this world. Surely their parlor games aren't confined to just this world alone you would reason, I mean the bad guys are spirits and spirit is everywhere. Author, Ed Citronelle, does cover their off-planet horizons and 'outsourcing" capabilities as well. His gift of discernment of the demonic spirit world and the battle in the spirit realm between those doing the doing and those being done to [that's us]... establishes the fact that our one effective weapon, prayer, sent out vehemently into that same spirit realm- has God-given authority supported in Scripture. It reminds me of that song, "We're not going to take it, we're not going to take it, we're not going to take it anymore". I recommend this book to the faint of heart in the hope that the reality of horror is only something to fear if you don't know that the only way you can lose is if you lose what you don't use. Prayer warriors have muscle thru GOD-'the power of life and death is in the tongue!' Ed shows you the who, what, where, when, why and how, together with faith [simply taking God at His word and actually expecting its outcome] and fervor is no match for GOD'S HOLY SPIRIT and authority given in the name of Jesus. Just remember Scripture says we will receive our reward in due season if we faint not. Sounds like a battle to me.

I like this book with God's wisom and revelation to this author I can now do my own battle and stand rooted in the THE COVENANT BLOOD OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST knowing and believing GOD IS FOR ME I can unmask the dark and allow JESUS CHRIST LIGHT TO SHINE THROUGH ME AND HEAL MY FAMILY TREE.THANK YOU GOD. THANK YOU PASTOR ED. GOD BLESS AND PROTECT YOU AND YOUR HOUSEHOLD IN JESUS CHRIST MIGHTY NAME!

Why should I use 20 Practice Routines for Classical Guitar instead of Pumping Nylon?Pumping Nylon grew out of Scott Tennant’s desire to have something to give to his conservatory students for them to work from. And while it has grown into something much bigger than that, his preface warns “not to confuse this book with a method book..it is not sequenced progressively…It is more of a reference book..”20 Practice Routines, on the other hand, is a carefully sequenced series of technical and musical challenges that progress logically (and inexorably) though the standard 8 grades of classical guitar proficiency established and recognized worldwide. However, unlike the technique books issued by such groups as the Royal Conservatory, these routines have been specifically developed for the adult amateur classical guitarist, and extensively beta-tested on over a thousand of us at Dr. Powis’s Classical Guitar Academy (of which I am, at age 60, a relatively new member).In front of me now (in addition to both editions of Pumping Nylon & the Royal Conservatory Guitar Technique Book), are Iznaola’s Kitharlogos, Johanson’s Daily Grind, and Kappel’s Bible of Classical Guitar Technique (described by Bradford Werner as “Pumping Nylon on steroids”). If you’re a conservatory student, or in the depths of a mid-life crisis, buy all of them. But if you’re ready to buckle down and bring on the classical guitar for the love of music, 20 Routines will get you from here to there in ways that you probably wouldn’t have imagined were possible.OK, I get it. But I can get some of these others as spiral-bound books, and that’s kind of a deal-breaker for me.I know what you mean. And while this perfectly bound edition lends itself well to spiralization (Kinko’s, Office Depot, Staples), you can also order a spiral-bound edition directly from Dr. Powis

I have largely avoided book not in TAB, and I missed this one when I bought it. Yes, the exercises are useful, as others have noted. But there is simply no excuse for not including TAB, especially on a book intended for beginners.Yes, I've heard all the excuses for so-called "standard" notation - really "piano notation." In an age when authoring software can easily scan scores and add TAB, they all fall flat. To use "standard notation" you must scribble in the fingering on the score and do mental gymnastics to picture the fretboard in your mind in order to execute the score. OK, if you're intending to be a professional you'll have to put up with this and you will get good at it eventually, but less than 1% of guitar players are going to be true professionals earning a living at it, so again, the excuses fall flat.

I did eventually buy this. It's a decent book. Worth 4 stars so far. But my only low rating and complaint is with the type of listing this book falls into. They give you a "look inside" tease, but they only show you the chapter page listings and the introduction. What good is that? I understand the writer wants to protect his work, but at least show us an exercise or two so we can see if it's something we're interested in. I hate buying something blind. If this were available in a music shop you'd be able to pick it up and look at it. Why not here?

I have been a student of Dr. Powis' online classical guitar school - Classical Guitar Corner (CGC) - for 2 years and can vouch, firsthand, for his talents both as a virtuoso world-class performer and exemplary instructor. This book is a wonderful addition to his already impressive body of work. The practice routines in this book are the same as the ones in the online curriculum but with the added benefits of being all in one place and available to students not affiliated with the academy. Somehow, Dr. Powis has been able to take all the guesswork out of technique practice while at the same time making it interesting and fun. These progressive studies are the most direct method for learning technique that I have come across. I recommend them highly. I have heard that Repertoire and Sight Reading books that will complement these studies are in the offing as well - I'm eagerly awaiting those!

I have been a member of the online Classical Guitar Corner Academy for more than a year, so I am very familiar with these practice routines. They are excellent, well organized, progressive routines that have been extremely valuable to me as a beginner. I will enjoy working through them for years to come. Along with the courses that Dr. Powis has made available through the academy, these practice routines have allowed me to make significant progress. I was very excited to receive this well made, bound edition of the routines.

This book by Dr. Simon Powis is an excellent resource if you're looking for practice routines for the Classical Guitar. The book will guide through different exercises that are structured depending on your level of playing, so if you are a beginner or an advanced player, you will surely find something helpful for you everyday routine.

Really nice, useful

I am a member of Classical Guitar Corner Academy (CGCA). I came to the guitar at age 57 with no formal musical training. CGCA has not only given me a structured approach to learning how to play the guitar but has offered so much more. I am actually learning about music theory and how it relates to this beguiling instrument. The technical routines in this book are integral to that process. Have you ever sat down with your guitar and thought "what do I need to practice today?" The routines in this book answer that question. The techniques in these routines can be applied to all repertoire even outside of what I am practicing for CGCA. The directions are clear, concise, and the exercises themselves are relevant. This is a resource that has moved me forward on my journey and I am grateful that Dr. Powis has compiled the technical routines under one cover.

I don't buy paper books anymore because I feel they waste space and resources. However, the Kindle version of this book is unreadable. The author (since he is self published) should have paid a professional to make sure the layout was cleaned up for the digital version. Very disappointed because it's supposed to be good content. But seriously very difficult to read because the formatting is messy - paragraphs not in order, strange breaks after single letters, and missing sections. Extremely disappointed with this purchase.

I bought this book because it was recommended and after listening to a conference call by the author of the book. I am an independent rep for a network marketing company. What caught my eye were the words "art of vision" and "self motivation". Consistency and disciplining my day is what I struggle with. When you are your own boss, it's easy to be sidetracked, distracted and off mission. The recordings going on in your head are positive and negative and how you view your past can make you your own worst enemy. The author also asks you to identify your values, your gifts, your standards, character traits beliefs and habits. Until you know yourself, can you move forward? Can you change the story/script running in your head? Richard Brooke says yes. The choice is yours. There is so much more in this book. Add it to your learning library.

It is so difficult to find coloring books that don't have either princesses OR cars/angry superheroes (and nothing else). This one has boys, girls, vehicles, ballerinas, balls, animals, musical instruments. I love the variety of pictures. And the pictures are not too simple but not too detailed. Just right. Perfect. Love it!

As an adult who enjoys simple coloring and "happy" pictures when stressed I purchased this book for myself. I am very pleased with this product. There are OVER 150 designs in this book. The pages are double-sided; however the pages are good quality bright-white paper. I have been able to color pictures in this book using Crayola markers and there is NO bleed through. I can't even remotely tell what marker colors I used on the other side of a page. I most definitely will be purchasing other books from this publisher!

You may think that for a coloring book, the price is a little high, but it's really a great buy in my opinion. The book is thick with tons of great pictures. There is a little bit of everything, so the pictures are gender neutral. The lines are thick and very black, and the pages are crisp white and heavier quality. Just because the pictures are bigger, does not mean that this coloring book is best suited for a younger child, because i, as a adult, enjoy coloring in this book more so than my "adult" coloring books. There are two of these books available, red and yellow. The only downfall is that they are only two to buy, because I don't know if we will ever want to color in a regular coloring book ever again!

This coloring book is awesome! Each page has really big pictures of items - astronaut, boat, rainbow, etc - for a toddler to easily identify and color. My 16 month old and I color the pages while we name what we see. It's cute, and there are lots of different things to color.

I bought several coloring books for our twin boys, but this book was by far the best. The pictures are big and the subjects are easily identifiable by the kids. There are several pages in this book and the pages are thick enough to allow for rough use guaranteeing hours of fun. I highly recommend this book.Dec 31, 2017It's been a year since we bought this book. Our boys are now 3 years old and they are still working on the seemingly inexhaustible pages. They have learnt and developed new motor skills along the way.

OMG! THIS IS SO MUCH BETTER THAN I EVEN EXPECTED IT TO BE! THE PICTURES ON EACH PAGE ARE HUGE AND OUTLINED WITH THICK BLACK LINES. PERFECT FOR MY 18 MONTH OLD WHO IS JUST STARTING TO SCRIBBLE :) THE WEIGHT OF THE PAPER IS GREAT TOO, DOESN'T SEEM LIKE IT WILL TEAR EASILY AND SHOULD HOLD UP NICELY WITH SUPERVISION.

I bought this for my teenage daughter who is developmentally disabled. She has loved this coloring book. We bought this in September last year, and she just about has all of the pictures colored now. So it has lasted her almost a year. She went from making a couple of marks on the paper to really covering the page with colors. She still isn't coloring inside the lines, but she is enjoying the process of putting lots of color on the paper. I am getting ready to buy another coloring book in this series to occupy her once this one is full.

This book has a nice feel to it. It is a sturdy paperback book.Its well written and has bold headings. The writing flowed well and I found how the book was divided to be quite useful. There is too much information to be absorbed just by reading through once, so the divided parts and bold headings made it easy to go back and review something if I felt I missed it while reading.The technical information was spot on but as with all technical information it can be a little dry. Luckily in this book there are many anecdotes and personal stories to demonstrate how that technical information comes to play in a real life example. I especially like the story of the ex-con who after serving his time and finding Jesus, had begun a church and then found the unwanted attention of the IRS.

This book is an easy read and it lays out dealing with the IRS in practical terms. It is not a scare tactic and although it uses several case studies, it does not address the extreme cases that are interesting but irrelevant to most of us.I highly recommend this book to anyone about to go head-to-head with the IRS. It is also excellent for small business owners because it lays out common practices to avoid that can get you into big trouble.Full Disclosure: the author and I worked for the same company but in different departments for several years. I was given a copy of the book.

Patrick's book was informative, even for those people who may never need his services. At least I know that expert help is available. Although it could have been boring it was very interesting and well written. My only concern is that the last part of the book seemed to be an advertisement for his services.

Patrick knows his stuff. This books is helpful for anyone looking to get the IRS off their back.

This book is perfect for people like me that has a business but don't know much about the IRS and the taxation. I highly recommend it.

I really liked Patrick's book. The book was informative and easy to understand for a Tax Resolution guide book. I would recommend this book and New Life Tax Resolution, if you are in need of help with an IRS issue.
