This book has numerous and substantial errors. For example, one outline states that certain material would be discoverable, when the California code plain states it would "not" be. A missing "not" that makes all the difference. Another outline states that the muscle center is still an operative test for diversity in federal courts, despite the fact that this test was done away with in 2010 by the Supreme Court, and *that very question* was tested on the July 2012 California bar. Many other errors abound, and what is truly terrifying are the errors that I did not discover because I assumed what the book said was correct. I highly recommend users AVOID this book.

I love how this book is broken down into different tools for different points in studying. The comprehensive outlines have everything you need to know about a given subject, and the primer outlines are more concise and only have the really important stuff. My favorite are the issue spotter checklists. It's so helpful to have a list of topics to memorize for each subject to look for on essay questions. I was planning a road trip from LA thru Vegas to parts of Utah and Arizona. I have internet devices, but I like something that does not required batteries or a signal. I found this book to be very helpful. Using the internet, you really have no idea whom is writing what you are reading. I could tell the author of this book is a professional. He has a consistent honest style and tells it like it is. Using mostly this book I ended up planning my road trip from Zion to Moab(arches) to Page(antelope canyons) to Grand Canyon to Sedona and back to Vegas/LA. And while driving, I had my wife reading things from the chapters to where we were headed next to verify.My favorite feature of the book(other than the maps or course) is that he gives you recommendations on what to see depending on how much time you have. For example...if you just have a few hours, a whole day, or more. Just the way I think. He also shows the driving times between destinations. Exactly what I needed. Based on the book I did prioritize and skip some things (Bryce canyon for example) that I knew I just did not have the time to see.I used this book more for the parks information and driving, not so much for places to eat or motels. It does have some sections on New Mexico I think, but I did not go there.Excellent guide and book.

This book was invaluable for us on a 10 day road trip from Vegas-Zion-Bryce-Capitol Reef-Arches-Canyonlands-Monument Valley-Grand Canyon. Had lots of details with very good descriptions of attractions so that we could pick and choose what appealed to us. Same thing for hikes -- lots of details and "must see" advice so that we could pick and choose what appealed to us. I liked this book so much, I will look to other Moon books for travel information in the future.

It did not cover much of where we were going. Antelope Canyon area not included. I used Trip Advisor more and really didn’t find much helpful information to even use. There is more thorough and current information on the internet these days. Just be sure to download info before you go because Wi-Fi very spotty in the area.

Great resource for pre-planning a trip to some of the Southwest National parks and a great quick reference guide to take along daily. I used this book to plan a trip just 2 weeks ahead of time and this book really helped me narrow down on what to include in my itinerary.

Interesting and fun book to read thru

This book gives good coverage of the history of astronomy from the earliest, prehistoric days, up almost to the discovery of the first quasar. Pannekoek as an expert astronomer is very good on the technical difficulties to be overcome at each step. Of particular interest is his account of the emergence of the German optical industry, which was largely stimulated by astronomy.You probably won't realise at first or second read that the author is the notorious originator of "Left Communism" or "Council Communism" that so annoyed Lenin that he wrote a book against it! But Pannekoek was an old-school scholar, and didn't believe in politicising everything.

The only reason I don't give this five stars is that some of the historical ideas in here have a sort of outdated feel. still it's beatifully written, and the professor who wrote it obviously really came alive while talking about astronomy. Look at some selections from the table of contents, and see if it whets your appetite. Old Babylonian Sky Lore... Assyrian Astrology... Chaldaean Tables (of the stars)... Gree Poets and Philosophers... Arabian Astronomy... Copernicus... Kepler... Newton...If this is the kind of thing that floats your proverbial boat, you could do a lot worse than this book. It really is very beautifully written, too -- if you happen to be familiar with, and enjoy, Olaf Stapledon's writing style, you'll find this to be very pleasing. You might want to keep a dictionary of astronomical terms handy, if you are someone who loves the drama of the historical clash of Science versus Dogma, but aren't necessarily that familiar with words like "azimuth", "declination", etc. Also, if you like this, you may want to seek out the jourrnal "Isis", which specializes in the study of the history of science.

Although published in 1961, this book provides a lucid, engaging, and comprehensive review of the history and practice of astronomy from the pre-Babylonian era to the early 20th century. While lacking in depth due to the survey nature of the work, the information presented is relevant, insightful, and interesting. The flavor of the different eras when astronomy was practiced is certainly tasted as well as insights into the people who viewed the skies above. A great book for a survey of the history of astronomy. A useful project would be to append the book with the astronomical knowledge gleaned in the past century, which would show just how rapidly our knowledge of the universe has been expanding in the recent past.

This is more of a reference book than something you would sit down and read. The chapters on early Assyrian, Chaldean, Greek and Chinese astronomy are comprehensive and well-researched. If want an exciting read, I would recommend anything by E.C.Krupp (Echoes of the Ancient Skies) or Dava Sobel (Longitude) instead.

The kindle edition has absolute terrible photo quality. and the photos are the book. it's a shame. not worth the money on kindle.

There isn't a ton of text in this book, but what's there is perfect. Between the pictures and the text, the book really decodes what makes a Japanese garden a Japanese garden. It also tells the story behind many of the elements in traditional Japanese gardens, and the photos are simply drop-dead gorgeous. It gave me lots of ideas for my blank-slate backyard, and tons of inspiration to get started on my own Japanese garden.

Beautiful but limited to a few gardens

As the heading says...looking at the gardens pictured here in this book can make me feel almost as good as I would there in those gardens and I have been, there, in some of those gardens.

Bought it as a Christmas gift for my friend who had just returned from Seattle & Portand and saw many such gardens on her trip. She loved it!

This book is full of wonderful views of amazing gardens. It is a picture book.The Japanese refuse latin making it difficult to identify plants and trees. I. E all spruces are ezo spruce. Great to look at not much else

Japanese gardens are for the soul.Makes one feel so at one with nature.Excellent book in words and photographic content.

Great ideas, great pictures, really great book. Highly reccommended for anyone interested in re-doing their yard or a part of their yard.
