"One of the things I love about Jacey Boggs as a teacher is that she doesn't mess around by saying what she's teaching is quick or easy. She starts the book with a basic wrap technique and ends with a three layered yarn that is the spinning equivalent of rubbing your stomach, patting your head and dancing a jig all at the same time. In between she teaches about loop, coils, corespinning, beehives and all of the combinations of skills that make up the yarns that Jacey is known for and has been teaching around the world. There are typically 4-6 photos for each technique in this book and 2 of those are (really gorgeous) beauty shots. The remaining photos exactly illustrate the crux of making each yarn. These process shots were clearly chosen by Jacey herself. Each yarn technique is broken down into numbered written steps and explained in mechanical detail: set your wheel up this way, your fiber hand does this and your drafting hand does this. There is no magic. With this book, you learn yarn making in a way that is a repeatable, intentional yarn. You can look at the pictures and read the words and watch the DVD to have the lessons soak into your spinning mind through a variety of learning styles. I am only on the third art yarn technique in this book, the tornado (which is still in chapter one) and I am LOVING it. I just want to make tornadoes all day long. Jacey is right when she says you will learn a lot about what you thought you already knew; I feel like I'm learning to spin all over again. I'm learning more about how to use my wheel, particularly tension; I'm getting more control - working with three strands of different yarn and one roving and getting them to come together in something that looks like a tornado but with some artistic value is so satisfying. The yarn is turning out great and it's so forgiving (i.e. you can't tell where it's mucked up when the whole thing is a tornado!)I went back briefly to spin a traditional yarn and it actually felt different. It was easier and I noticed that I did have more control.This book opens up a whole new world of creativity with yarn and I am enjoying it tremendously.

I have been spinning less than a year and am very grateful for this book and the DVD that comes with it. Jacey Boggs is that one in a million teacher that we all hope to have. Her easy to follow DVD has helped me jump into textural yarns and the book is one I have read over and over. She has sound, logical advise and I would recommend this as a must have book for any spinner's library. If you don't know, Jacey also has an incredible publication called Ply magazine which is packed from cover to cover with very valuable, sound information. Truly she is a gift to the fiber world. LOVE!

I've been spinning for years and didn't have much use for novelty yarns. What do you do with them? And why waste all that time for a yarn that in the end wasn't all that useful? Then I saw this book. It's not really that the novelty yarns presented are better than they've ever been, but the explanations of how to make them--and why are beyond wonderful and the yarns themselves are fantastic eye candy. There are no finished projects in the book (unless the yarn itself counts, and that's just fine by me), but the beauty of the yarns and the clarity of the presentation made me start looking for the possibilities. And don't overlook the included DVD. I'm not much on instructional videos, but this one is very good AND shows knitted swatches. Best spinning money I ever spent!

The DVD in this book is the best part! While Jacey can't help but have some cross-over similarities with Lexi Boeger's work, they both have unique techniques to get a spinner inspired to go the next level up in creative yarning. Crazy stuff in that DVD and very well organized with music and staging. This is for the true lover of spinning.

This book and DVD are exactly what I hoped for. Good video, clear directions, excellent examples. Jacey is a wonderful teacher. I hope to see her in person some time soon.

After years of spinning gurus teaching us to spin finer and finer, Jacey has made spinning fun again. Funky yarns and colors. One disappointment is that this book is tamed down somewhat from her first DVD; the set is bland and the yarns have become "useful" And I miss the band with crazy wool hats.But seriously fellow spinners, this book is fantastic. You can read about the spinning tecniques, then watch Jacey actually do it. What a great idea! Then if you need a quick refresher, look back at the book. Useable for beginning or advanced spinner.Jacey is aware of balance and structure, so your yarns will not only be cool but you can actually knit and wear them!AND this book DVD combo is a great price. You can't go wrong here, get it for your library!

After spinning even textured yarns for over 30 years, I'm ready to try something new. Spin Art: Mastering the Craft of Spinning Textured Yarn is what I've been looking for to teach me how. The DVD is great. I would definitely sign up for a class with Jacey Boggs. This book/DVD set is the next best thing. Jacey's approach is filled with common sense and she recommends using the equipment you have. You don't have to go out and buy a special wheel to create textured yarn.

Jacey Boggs did a fabulous job on this book! the photos are stunning, the instruction is clear and easy to follow and her tips are very helpful. I love that she added a dvd and have viewed it several times, she is very charming and ingageing. I purchased her book before it came out, I order 2 copies and was confident it would be a great spinning book because I have read her articles shes done for spin-off magazine. She did not let me down, and I hope she writes another!

What a neat book. Not only will we use on our next trip to Florida, but we have found some things to do closer to home, too!

Our problem - didn't notice is was primarily for kids. Book seems fine for its purpose. I didn't read "fine print". guess we are too old

Over the years, this book has become one of my favorites. It's a beutiful story about travel, the hardships of parenthood, and modern family dynamics. I would recommend this to all.

In a former life, I supervised the compilation and editing of thousands of directory pages each year. So I know a bit about the problems and goals of such information-publishing. And this one delivers. Specific information, concentrating on its topic, consistently presented. Plus, a good portion of fun and advice. If you're hitting the road down that long stretch of I-75, this is a solid and worthy investment.

We just moved to Michigan and our family lives in Atlanta. This book provided excellent hints and tips on keeping our child entertained for the long trip. What a treasure trove! I love the set up of this book. It starts from the very beginning- with the parts of a guitar. The format of the lessons mixes theory with technique and practice. Mr. Ferrante covers some of the most famous guitar riffs so I can really feel like a rocker as I learn to play guitar.The videos make learning from a book so easy! It's the next best thing to having your own personal teacher. Mr. Ferrante speaks clearly. He is personable and makes me feel like learning to play the guitar is within my reach. The demonstrations of the fingers are clear and concise. This book is a true bargain!

This course is an amazing value to take a student from the very basics in rock guitar through at least two or three years of instruction. I simply cannot believe how much material is included. The videos are extremely helpful, especially with young learners. My 12 year old son already knows how to read music somewhat, BUT this course is helping him in areas where he struggled. My 10 year old step-daughter is ecstatic that this is available for her to use now. She had been using YouTube videos and printed materials that confused her.There are videos throughout the entire ebook, located on the exact page where they are applicable. No searching, no loading CDs. Perfect for teens! The videos help with everything from holding the pick to helping train the ear to different chords.I think this is a great course for dedicated older children and adults. My 10 year old is very dedicated and has a high reading level so this program is perfect for her age and above. I previewed their other course geared for younger children and I can't wait to try that one with my other daughter.Damon is so personable and friendly. He is extremely talented and an excellent teacher. It isn't easy to find both of these qualities in an instructor. His videos are easy to follow and extremely clear. I'm so happy I found this program for my children. Where in the world can you get such a value for three years of music instruction for your children? I love it! I shared it with everyone I know.** Just a tip: The videos were taking a while to spool in HD quality. When I switched to standard video, the quality was just as great and the videos never hesitated again.

I really appreciated the fact that this is set up for those who may need a little help getting started. For instance, perhaps you are shy or the thought of diving into a new endeavor in front of someone who is very experienced may intimidate you. I would like to take up guitar again and it makes it all the more doable for me to think that when I do, I can do it in the comfort of my own home. I'm a mom with young kids, and getting the kids taken care of so I can go attend regular lessons is something that is not going to happen for me right now. So here I can pick up this book after the kids go to bed and begin to pursue a musical outlet. I like the emphasis on having fun with it. And still I have access to a professional in the brilliantly linked instructional videos. I can't wait to start playing! This book will also help take a beginner with no previous musical instruction and introduce them to a world of music, or build on the knowledge that someone with a musical background has and take it in a whole new direction. Thank you for giving this to the world!

I found this book very easy to follow and I love the instructional videos, it really helps you practice what is being taught. It is a unique learning experience that allows people who learn differently (whether visual or auditory) to grasp the techniques. I really enjoyed learning the basics of the guitar all the way up to playing music with skilled expertise. This is an enjoyable learning opportunity for all levels.Damon is an awesome instructor who explains various areas thoroughly. One of the things I enjoyed most were the visual area of color explosions which give students the ability to strum along and practice what you have just been taught. You cannot go wrong learning how to rock with this instructional book! The easy one click video instruction really adds to this unique learning experience.

Then it goes on to teach you major chords and intervals. This book is an excellent tool and guide for learning the guitar. Somebody who has never once touched a guitar can have knowledge within minutes of reading this book.I would recommend this to anyone who is serious about starting to learn the guitar.

First, not to repeat, I agree with all the other reviews. This book is golden: comprehensive, crisp maps & photos, and a ton of useful information for hikers, rock-climbers, photographers, and first-time visitors of every stripe.I brought this with me though am poring through it now, more than while in Yosemite. Great for planning (an overview) as well as getting more info post-trip as I look through photos and try to match up some of what I did and what I photographed, with maps and photos. Comprehensive is the word.I can only add that this was one of two books shown to me by the concierge at Yosemite Valley's Ahwahnee (Majestic) Hotel, the other being a photographer's guide (mostly about lighting technique and camera setup, along with locations).It's just a great compact & encyclopedic guide, this. Even with wildfires closing parts of Yosemite as I arrived (the first day it re-opened, in mid-August), the book offered useful tips and suggestions as I went to some "Plan B" and C alternatives to what I'd originally planned within the park and surrounding areas. One of those plans involved lodging at the edges - East and West - of the park, in case it was entirely closed. This brought me several days based near Mono lake, which was less smoky and quite scenic, with interesting unique things (like the Tufa in Mono Lake), and as a bonus this book includes Mono Lake. So I could not ask for more. Everything one might want or need relating to Yosemite, activities, and the area.

relied on the book on a recent trip to yosemite (may 2018). great tips and recommendations, hikes are accurately described (length, difficulty, scenery) and directions easy to follow. the book is clearly organized into sections reflecting the areas in the park. the only suggestion i’d point out as inaccurate is the claim that the gas inside the park is cheaper than around. it was on average $2 per gallon more in the park. however, since we visited in the off season, perhaps the high season is different.

Far and away the best guidebook I’ve ever used - like his other books, James Kaiser’s latest Yosemite book is full of essential information, fulsome history and amazing photos. It’s the only book you’ll need for visiting this special national park.

One of the best travel books. Has great information about history, wildlife and surrounding area. I have the Acadia book as well. I wish the author would write more!!!

James Kaiser writes really useful and compelling travel guides. We have several of them and we love the Yosemite guide best of all. It is informative, beautiful and comes with both travel details and ideas for hikes and exploring. While no guide is perfect (we would have liked more detailed camping info) overall we find this one of the most useful guides we own - and hence why we just bought a copy for our family who are going to Yosemite this summer!

Terrific book! The photos are spectacular, and it's just a fun book to read - lots of great anecdotes, history, and solid advice on how to do the park right. This book sealed it for me: Yosemite will be the next national park I visit. Got the book a week ago, and I've already dog-eared about two dozen pages for the sites and hikes that I want to hit.

This book has beautiful pictures and great summaries of many places in Yosemite. It isn't really a complete guide, as that would require a multi-volume encyclopedia. I was very happy to bring it to the park with me.

Covers history and geology, flora and fauna and describes very well the several regions of the park and associated activities, especially hikes with discussion of length, terrain, altitude rise, estimated time, etc. Vivid pictures for all areas, as well.

This nicely illustrated and easy to read guide is comprehensive, though you will need to be willing to expand your vocabulary considerably. I wish it had a glossary!I bought both the paper and the Kindle editions to see if reading would be better with one than the other. It's definitely better to have the paper edition because it allows you to quickly page back and forth to see illustrations (all are black and white) while reading the text. The illustrations are larger with the paper edition, as well, and the book is lightweight so not difficult to carry with you on the commuter train. Last but not least, you can pass your paper edition on to another reader, impossible with the Kindle edition unless you want to loan your Kindle to someone for a while. I've learned from my comparison that for books with many illustrations, the hard copy is the way to go.

I devoured this book within a few days--loved it. I think it gives a good introduction with details on the the topics of molecular and cellular biology. However, if you don't have a background in chemistry (specifically, molecular diagrams) , you might want to search YouTube and Google for online tutorials. The book does try to provide some understanding on that subject, but it left be a little bewildered. Fortunately for me, I found an excellent video on YouTube that covered chemical structures. I highly recommend this book for the novice.

I found this book to be an excellent overview on how cells function and how genetics work. Most major aspects of cells are covered from what each organelle does and how certain processes cells perform work. These include things such as cell respiration, photosynthesis, and mitosis.The other important aspect covered in this book is DNA and genetics. The explanation of what purpose DNA has and how gene traits work is very good and easily understandable.Although this book is intended for mostly anyone from a student of biology to the reader with a casual interest in science, I found the section on cell respiration, with its multi-step processes, to be rather confusing. However, that is my only real complaint about the book.In conclusion, I recommend this book to anyone with an interest in biology, cells, or genetics.

Really a great way to learn Molecular Biology. The writing style is excellent with enough humor to make the information fun to read. I found this book to be a replacement for a number of introductory books on this subject since it covers the subject in a thorough and informative way, better than most others. Would recommend it highly to those interested in the subject.

I am a pre-pharmacy student. I've downloaded this book as well as the basic Biology for Dummies, and Biochemistry for Dummies. I find for my General College Bio class, I read this book the most and get the best info from it. As supplementary reading to my text book, I find this explains topics for more understanding and its not a dry as my textbook can be.I think all the Dummies books are great for extra reading, and I am sure I'll be buying more for Chemistry and other classes as well.

I picked up this book simply because I wanted a general "primer" on the subject of Molecular and Cell Biology prior to digging into other materials. It has served that purpose well. I feel as though I have a general grasp of many new concepts. I must admit that I did find it necessary to re-read many chapters to truly grasp the material sufficiently. Occasionally new vocabulary and terms were used in a chapter but not explained until one or two chapters later. Also, not all referenced images were helpful. Overall though, a great 'starter' book.

I bought this book to help me study for a test so that I could get into LPN school. I had to either take a biology class or challenge out of it by passing a test before I could even start nursing school. I chose to try to challenge out of the class so that I could start nursing school earlier. There is no way I would have passed the test without this book! I have been out of school for over 15 years and had to learn biology all over again. With the help of this book and a lot of prayer I passed the test and get to go straight into nursing classes this fall! I plan to buy more of these "Dummies" books to help me with my nursing classes!

This book is an excellent introduction to the subject of molecular and cell biology. Like all "for Dummies" books, it is written for the person who has little or no background in the subject, and is slightly whimsical and presented in language I could understand. I recently read a couple of other books that talked about how genes play an important part in driving our behavior and I wanted to check it out. I wanted to understand just what DNA is and why it is important and how it fits together with molecules, cells, genes and chromosomes. This book did the job.
